Our Collection

The collection at RPL contains books, audiobooks, movies, music, CD-ROMs and more. In fact, almost 500,000 items are available to you as an RPL cardholder. If you can’t find what you need in our collection, one of our staff will be happy to help you request the item through Interlibrary Loan.

Special Collections

RPL offers some special collections and resources for you including our Financial Opportunities Center (FOC), Local History Room, Parent/Teacher Collection and Job Center, and our newly added Local Music Collection.

Rockford Area Music Collection The RAMI Local Music Collection at Rockford Public Library is a special music collection in which local musicians and bands can share their CDs with the library cardholders at RPL.

We are happy to include your CD in this special collection. CDs will “float” within the RPL library system and will be available for check out and hold at all six of our locations.

Other Great Offerings

At our Main Library downtown, the FOC offers information to improve your “fiscal fitness.” Come visit us and learn more about investing, planning for retirement, starting your own business, job searching, resume preparation or saving for college. Materials in the FOC collection can also be found at our branch libraries.

The Local History Room, also located at the Main Library, is the best stop for information on genealogy research or the history of Rockford and Winnebago County. Rockford Public Library also offers access to valuable databases including HeritageQuest and Ancestry Plus and classes on using those online tools effectively.

The Parent Teacher Collection is a collection of activities and parenting materials available at the Main Library in the Youth Services Department.
