Higurashi is based off of a murder mystery game. This anime follows the adventures of Keiichi Maebara and his friends. Keiichi moved to the village of Hinamizawa not long before the start of the story. Though he is new to the small village, he has made quite a few friends, both his age and younger, and together they have an after school game club. Everything seems fine for a while until Keiichi learns of a secret involving a murder. It turns out, every year during the annual cotton drifting festival, someone has died and gone missing. He may not want anything to do with this but he soon finds he is in the middle of the whole thing. What I found the most interesting about this anime is that it has several arcs, even though they all take place during the festival and each one is told in a different way. In every arc, there is also a different member of the group that commits some sort of crime. A lot of crazy stuff happens here, including psychotic rage and murder, but it's really fun. I wouldn't worry about it anyway, the anime is calm for the most part. But if you ever want to see something different from Blue Exorcist or Soul Eater, this would be close to the top of my list.
